We'll tell you what you need to consider when planning your conservatory

Conservatory sizes

Minimum = 3 metres x 3 metres

Conservatories can be built to almost any size you would like. The minimum size is 3m x 3m, however, you will need to consider a few things should you wish to have a large conservatory at the rear or side of your property. A conservatory in general is considered to be a permitted development, in other words, it doesn't need planning permission as long as it adheres to the limits below:

  • No extension forward of the principal elevation or side elevation fronting a highway.
  • No extension to be higher than the highest part of the roof.
  • Maximum height of a single-storey rear extension of four metres.
  • Side extensions to be single storey with maximum height of four metres and width no more than half that of the original house.
  • No extension forward of the principal elevation or side elevation fronting a highway.
  • No verandas, balconies or raised platforms.

  • *The above list is not extensive, to find out more about planning permission and building regulations for conservatories and orangeries see below.

What direction or location is best for my conservatory?

Here we'll give you our advice on what the best options are for location.

    Locations & Directions

The location of your conservatory can affect the amount of sunlight you receive throughout the day. If you are wanting to make the most of the sun, a south facing conservatory receives the most sunlight throughout the day. An East facing conservatory gets sunlight during the morning as the sun rises and a West facing conservatory gets sunlight during the afternoon as the sun sets. A North facing conservatory receives hardly any sunlight throughout the day.

When choosing the location of your conservatory you have to bare in mind temperature issues, such as a south facing conservatory may get too hot or a North facing conservatory may need extra heating!

The Celsius Team would discuss the best options to suit your property during our initial visit with you. To arrange an appointment, please contact the Celsius Team on 0151 545 1400

What roofing choices do I have for a new conservatory?

Check out the roofing options for your new or old conservatory

    Glass Roof

Celsius Conservatories can be fitted with a number of roof choices. The most popular roof choice is glass. The glass roof can be supplied with double (A rated) or triple glazing (AA rated) along with tinted options to ensure that your roof reacts in the best way possible for your particular situation.

Choosing a glass roof will give you the most amount of light available and the best possible view from your new conservatory. You will not only have a great view of your garden but also a fantastic view of the sky which is great on a star-filled summer's evening.

    Solid Roof

Solid Roof Conservatories give you the feeling of an extension rather than a full conservatory. They are warmer than glass roof conservatories as they are more thermally efficient but they will still allow for a good deal of light to get into the room via the surrounding windows.

Replacing your old roof - If you do have an older conservatory that has a glass or polycarbonate roof, why not consider a solid roof replacement. Celsius Home Improvements can transform your old conservatory and give it a new lease of life with a solid roof replacement.
